Mercury Recycling

The toxic liquid metal mercury is to be found in quite different areas of application: In medical practices (blood pressure meters), in laboratories (analyzers), in exhaust gas purification systems (crematoria), in street and sports field lighting (meta vapor lamps) or in button cells. To protect people and the environment, mercury-containing waste has to be disposed of environmentally sound and sustainable.

Batrec Industrie AG has developed a process for recovering mercury that is unique worldwide. The toxic substance is isolated and filtered out in several steps. At the end of the manufacturing process the liquid metal is left over in a degree of purity of 99.995%. The recovered mercury can be returned to the product cycle without any harm to the environment.

The mercury distillation method developed by Batrec Industrie AG is a ground-breaking innovation. Today, several European countries ship their spent mercury-containing batteries to Switzerland for disposal.
