Battery Recycling

About five billion batteries are sold in Europe each year, and about 120 million in Switzerland. Spent batteries and rechargeable batteries contain a high share of valuable materials that can be used again, but they also contain toxins that are hazardous to the environment, for example, mercury, zinc, lead and cadmium, which under no circumstances may be returned to the material cycle. For this reason, spent batteries are considered hazardous waste in Europe.

Batrec Industrie AG is the only company worldwide that has developed a system which completely isolates hazardous toxins and metallic substances contained in spent batteries in a closed cycle and converts them into new products. Hazardous waste is turned into valuable raw material which can be returned to the production cycle. This cycle guarantees a sustainable management of resources and is highly eco-friendly.
