Environment and Safety

Spent batteries are hazardous waste; they contain toxins that are hazardous to the environment, such as mercury, lead and cadmium. For this reason, the disposal process requires utmost care. With our high standards we protect the safety and health of our employees and the general public. Moreover, we take care to conserve natural resources and contribute to the preservation of a sound environment.

Batrec Industrie AG is certified according to the ISO standards 9001 and 14001 (Quality and Environment). The OHSAS 18001 Certificate, Safety, is in preparation.

Environment

A clean and sound environment is our goal. With our closed cycle, we guarantee the environmentally sound processing and recycling of hazardous waste and make a major contribution to environmental protection.

Particularly because of the high environmental standards in Switzerland, many other countries are interested in battery recycling by Batrec Industrie AG – despite higher processing costs. Dutch and Swedish spent batteries are imported into Switzerland and recycled by Batrec.

Batrec technology differs from other well-known technologies in one crucial aspect: the processing of toxic materials, primarily toxic mercury. At Batrec, the mercury is distilled completely and recovered as metallic mercury. Other known technologies cannot guarantee that toxins will not be released diffusely and uncontrolled into the environment through products, by-products or residual waste. This may lead to ecological damage and health hazards with considerable follow-up costs.

Safety

Maximum safety is the basis of our daily work at Batrec Industrie AG.
The occurrence of damage can be ruled out by the proper use of safety arrangements and protective equipment and by working deliberately and carefully. Emergency precautions are important to ensure a correct and professional response should such events occur.

Batrec employees will be trained and educated continuously in safety-related issues.

The safety dispositive is reviewed regularly and adapted, if necessary.

Periodic exercises will keep our know-how up-to-date and help to test the responsiveness of all employees.
